Our Big Storm 2011

For those of you that don't live near us, I am sure you heard that we were hit with a pretty bad snowstorm over the past few days. It made national news and is the largest amount of snowfall at once that we have seen in our lifetime (biggest storm since 1979). Yes, we live in Iowa and yes we are used to snow. But honestly this storm was terrible and I have the pictures to prove it! Luckily we are all safe and sound and Brody and Mommy have not left the house since Monday night. Daddy went to work this morning and despite backed up traffic on the bridge he made it in one piece. We had a small amount of snow Monday night, around 1.7 inches. On Tuesday it began snowing around 2pm but really picked up closer to 4pm. Daddy's work closed early and Mommy's work closed for the night so we were home and able to watch it from the window. It was very windy which caused some serious snow drifts. On Wednesday morning we woke up to over 16 inches of snow! Some of the drifting snow produced drifts up to 5 feet! Cars were stuck all over town. Poor Daddy dug us out and up until this point we really had no need for a snowblower as we are blessed with our wonderful neighbors, the Dunsworth's, who help us out when it snows but after this I think we are going to look into getting one at the end of the season. Our driveway is not very big but since we had that much snow and some really high drifts it made for some serious shoveling! Daddy shoveled the whole thing by hand and is paying for it today. We are now facing dangerously low temperatures. School has been canceled since the kids got out two hours early on Tuesday. The weekend looks promising with temperatures in the 20's. For now we will stay put and keep warm! Here are some pictures of our snow storm.
